If you're a skilled worker in the cosmetics industry and come from a country outside the European Union (EU), looking to immigrate to Austria, you'll need to apply for a work permit called the Red-White-Red Card (RWR Card). This permit will allow you to work for a specific employer in Austria for up to 2 years. The best part is that you can bring your family members along with you to Austria.
After completing 5 consecutive years of work for the same employer, you may apply for permanent residency, which will enable you to live and work in Austria indefinitely.

Who is eligible for the work permit?
In the context of criteria-driven immigration to Austria, the eligibility for a work permit is determined based on specific qualifications and criteria. There are three main requirements that individuals need to fulfill in order to be eligible to apply for a work permit, known as the Red-White-Red Card (RWR Card):
To apply for the Red-White-Red Card, you need to provide evidence of completed vocational training in a shortage occupation according to the ordinance of Austria in the following professions:
- Qualified Esthetician & Cosmetologist
- Makeup Artist
- Manicurist & Pedicurist
- Nail Stylist
- Certified Masseur, Therapeutic Massage, Medical Massage, Sports Massage
- Tattooist & Piercer
- Hairdresser & Wig makerYou must also have a binding job offer in Austria, and the company must be willing to pay you the minimum wage due by law, regulation, or collective agreement. In the case of overpayment customary in the company, this must also be granted.
- Employer's Declaration according to the Collective Agreement
- Employment contract for 2 yearsAdditionally, you must score at least 55 points according to the following criteria:
- Completed vocational training in the shortage occupation (30 points)
- Work experience per half-year (1 point)
- German certificate A1 (5 points)
- German certificate A2 (10 points)
- German certificate B1 (15 points)
- English certificate A2 (5 points)
- English certificate B1 (10 points)
- Age*: until 30 years (15 points), until 40 years (10 points), until 50 years (5 points)
* Unfortunately, there is no possibility for interested persons over 50 to apply.
Once you have met the 3 criteria above, you can apply for the Red-White-Red Card, which is issued for 2 years. It entitles you to temporary settlement and employment with a specific employer.
What documents must be submitted?
For the issuance of the residence permit, the following documents, in particular, must be submitted:
Basics
- Passport
- Photograph 45x35mm (not older than half a year)
- Certificate of Good Conduct / Police Clearance Certificate including diplomatic authentication
(Criminal record extract from the home country, not older than 6 months, for all individuals aged 14 and above)
- Proof of health insurance covering all risks
(Please note that the scope of validity is Austria, and it provides sufficient coverage for various medical cases (coverage amount significantly exceeding EUR 30,000, guaranteeing the assumption of any rescue and repatriation costs)Qualification

- a language diploma or course certificate proving German* language skills from A1/A2/B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
- additionally if available an English** certificate for additional points
* Diplomas and certificates of German language proficiency can be obtained in particular at the following institutes: ÖSD, Goethe-Institut, Telc GmbH, or Austrian Integration Fund.
** The following diplomas and certificates, in particular, are recognized as proof of English language proficiency: Cambridge Certificate, TELC Certificate, IELTS Language Diploma, TOEIC Language Diploma, or TOEFL Language Diploma.
NOTICE: Original and copies of certificates and supporting documents must be submitted. Documents not written in German or English must be translated into German or English. For better verification, the authority may require that the documents be notarized.
